View Full Version : linked revit file issues

We are currently collaborating with another architect and are both using Revit Architecture. We are responsible for the Exterior building envelope and the core element like the stairs/elevators. Our consultant is working on all of the walls, doors casework and furniture on the inside of the building. We have been linking their model into ours so the our floor plans and other views show up like the work has come out of one office and looks correct when they are printed.

The one things we noticed is the that items like the elevation tags, callouts, and section cuts from the linked model do not show up in our model. If I go to Visibility Graphics and Linked files I can customize the view to show up as it does in the original linked file (which works great) but if I dig a little deeper I will notice in the annotation category tab that there is not even a check box for the elevation, section, and callouts. I’m assuming this because these are view creating elements and since those views do not come across with the link the tags don’t show up either. Is there any way to get these tags to show up? The workaround for us so we could print our DD set was to export the those annotation categories out to an AutoCAD file then import them into our model. Again this took care of the issue for our printing but wanted to see if I was missing something so we can approach this a more efficient manner next time.

You're not missing anything. View related annotations placed in a linked file will not appear in the host file for the reason you suggest. This was discussed in an earlier thread.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately it looks like that thread ended at the same point I am currently at. I will keep looking and see if I can find a workaround better than the one I have. I will follow up soon…

As you are experiencing, at this time a "single model environment" is not very friendly to a multi-firm, multi-model approach. Doing architectural work in multiple models because they are being done by more than one firm is not uncommon but it isn't intended workflow by design.

Since it is a bit late for what I write below, you'll need to agree to present each others view annotation as little as possible and/or do what you've done, export the annotation to cad and import/overlay it in the views you need it in.

The "intended" workflow is that all the work is in one model. The "best way" to work on the project together would be to store the project at one office and use something like "remote desktop" to work on the project in the "primary" firms office. I say remote desktop because that is probably cheaper than creating a WAN that both firms could actually connect to etc etc. This way all work is done in the single model and all views are available to the entire team.
