In paperspace, when trying to zoom into the sheet layout... my viewports will scale up (almost as if I'm zooming in on them) at different rates. I can never get close enough to work on them. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Sounds like you vport is not locked.
First make sure you are in Paperspace and not in Model thru the viewport.
Command: PSPACE
To lock your viewport. Get your viewport scaled at the scale you want and then double-click the viewport. This should bring up the properties pallette. In the Properties palette select Display Locked and then click Yes.
(you can also accomplish this by selecting the viewport and then right click. then select "display locked" "yes")

It sounds like you have your viewports locked. Right click on the viewport, and choose 'display locked', then choose no. Although, I can zoom in and work in a viewport when they are locked. I don't have a problem with not getting close enough. :?
Don't forget that when you don't have your viewports locked and you zoom in, your work won't be to scale anymore. You'll have to reset the scale.

ARGH!!! Bbapties, you beat me to it!
Actually, depending on how you interpret you first post, they are either locked or not locked. Does that make sense? It's one or the other.

after re-reading this, it seems that the user is in a layout but is working in model thru a viewport. Then when zooming, the layout stays still and the vport scale changes. ..
what ever the case is....take a look at the display locked function of viewports

Yep, I agree. I think I read it wrong the first time.

It has nothing to do with viewport locking (which is a horrible solution if your viewports are scaling without your input).
I suspect your viewport Visual Style is set to something other than 2d Wireframe. This mode is the classic mode and should always be used for viewports if using paperspace. If you use any other Visual Style you risk problems, AutoCad did not make Visual Styles to work with paperspace.
So..
1. In paperspace.
2. Highlight viewport and make sure it's set to "Shade Plot = As Displayed"
3. Enter viewport and double click "2d Wireframe (in Visual Style Properties)
That will fix the floating/scaling objects withing the viewports. This bug was reported to Autodesk, along with a video over two years ago. Nothing has been done about it.. thank goodness with have annotation scaling though.

i think i've got a similar problem: i've locked the viewports on my layout with 1:20. i clicked twice on viewport frame to maximize viewport. when i minimized viewport and the scale became 0.054 - awful. that's a bug?

Well, 1:20 = 0.050 which is fairly close.
I have to ask - are you certain it was correct to start with?
And I suspect you will say - yes, completely certain.

well, about the scale - 0.0504 - not correct, not equal to 1:20
sorry i didn't understand your question quite right.
i've tested the process 5 times - set the viewport scale, lock the viewport, double click on the viewport's frame, make some changes, save it(or do not it) and right click to minimize viewport - and i've got not exact scale

if i'm not correct, please, make it clear for me.
without locking viewports everything goes fine

unfortunately i've set it as it'said in post#7. and it has been set this way by default-i've checked.so i'm sure that's correct(maybe there is one more option i didn't notice)

Post #7 was how I ended up dealing with the viewport scale issue, I do recall other discussion on it though. Is this in AutoCad 2007 or 2008?
Perhaps look at the Autodesk forums, they have good information on occasion.
