In Revit I have found that if I set the Text Size (text height) to a certain distance the height of the text that is placed varies depending on the font. This doesn't happen in Autocad where the height of text that is placed is always that height specified. This is causing us problems because we are trying to match an architect that is using the font Sanserif in AutoCAD, and we are trying to match them. I thought about changing the font size in Revit to compensate but that won't work because when I output the plans to dwg files the text will be the wrong size. Has anyone else encountered this and if so how did you handle it. I have a hunch that Revit is reading the true type font definition is different from Autocad.

Revit does it right and AutoCAD does it "wrong"..

Font are designed around points which include ascenders and descenders and a bunch of other acane terminology. So one font at a certian size will be designed differently than another font of the same size. the concept is that when the ascenders and descenders are all added up - they both take up the same amount of room.

So Revit isn't doing old style hand drawing, but new fangled desk top publishing.... This is all more consistant with Adobe, Word and all the other Windows apps....

Also note that Revit can get a little goofy on the disply of fonts in that sometimes they look like they jump position or size when zoomed way in. They print correctly.

Not the attached selection of fonts typed in MS Word at 24 point. All a litle different in height.

So, I wonder what the "best practice" would be for working with Revit when the client is working with AutoCAD or MicroStation. (?) We need to match their font sizes in both our plotted files and also our files exported to AutoCAD. Any good suggestions?

Just get the correct font and AutoCAD size value in Revit. Then in AutoCAD, run the standards checker to update the font styles if needed.

I looked at your example an did some tests of my own, and yes the text is different heights depending on what font is chosen. The difference is by how much. In your example they vary slightly, in Revit they are varying drastically, by almost 1/3 the keyed in height.

Also I tried the two test fonts in Power point and they don't vary at all were in Revit they do.

This is still an issue in the current release as well as 2009 and 2010. It is causing some issues with our Revision blocks matching an autocad titleblock and a revit titleblock. Over the course of a titleblock if you use 3/32" text which gives you 3/16" spacing and match that in autocad you are off by 5/16" by the time you get to the end of 30 lines of revision block spacing. This needs addressed. There is another post on Revit ArchCenter that says Autodesk is aware of the issue and is supposed to be addressed in future releases that is dated June 26th, 2009. Guess its not a big deal to them.
