View Full Version : Reinstalling Revit after formatting C Drive

I’ve been having problems with Outlook to the extent that uninstalling it and re-installing hasn’t worked.

The only option that seems open to me now is to reinstall Windows XP.

If I go down this route I will reformat my C Drive to clear out any rubbish in the registry. This will obviously mean I will have to reinstall all my programmes too.

Is there any advice I need to know regarding Revit and its License? As I have a stand-alone licence, with a second copy registered on my home PC, will I have to contact AutoDesk and tell them what has happened, for them to authorise my reinstall of Revit, or can I somehow save the licence already on my PC?

Thanks

I have been through this quite recently and I don't recall any real problem with making it work, however I suspect I may still be within my sixty day trial period, so I may not yet have reinstalled the license...

Before you format your HD, use the Portable License Utility to export your license. From what I understand, the licensing is based on the serial number of the HD, so once you bring Revit back online you should be OK. Or export the license to another computer, and then export the license back later.

Right, sorry about the delay in feeding back.

Saying as I had to re-format the C Drive and re-install all the programmes I decided to take the opportunity to grab a new P4 3.2 GHz with 250GB HD for myself and give my ‘old’ 3.0 GHz 80GB HD to a colleague.

This meant I wasn’t reinstalling Revit on the same machine and therefore the Portable Licence Utility didn’t work (although I did try it, just in case). Each PC has a unique code based on the hardware ( and perhaps the Chip serial number), so I had to contact my reseller CADLine and request a new authorisation code from AutoDesk. This worked smoothly and I was up-and-running within 15 minutes of my request. Thanks to all who offered help.
