View Full Version : Publish Bug in 2005 when plotting to file

Has anyone else had this problem when plotting to file using Publish in
AutoCAD 2005?

Select a whole list of drawings to plot.
Use a named page setup that plots to file, selecting all drawings at once,
so the first drawing is using its own page setup, but the others are
importing from that drawing.
Specify a directory in the Publish Options...
Hit Publish.

Only the first drawing plots.

We tried this again with all the same sheets, only applying local page
setups to three of the drawings and the rest imported...that time they all
plotted and to the right directory.
I can't tell yet if this is a consistent problem or if it's somewhat
sporadic.
Is this a bug or are we doing something wrong?

Thanks

What happens if you apply that external named page set up
to each drawing in the list one by one, does it still fail to plot
the entire list?

Hi

Haven't yet got AutoCAD 2005 :( but in the meantime does the following Technical Document on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base help...

ID: TS76529 - Batch plot to files using PUBLISH command (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS76529)

Might want to have a browse of the following threads; please note they don't answer your particular issue/problem but hopefully they may get you looking in other places so you can find the answer you're after...

plot to file setting toggles off by itself

Is there any replacement for BatchPlot in Autocad 04 and 05?

Have a good one, Mike

It did plot the entire list when we applied the named page setup to three of the sheets individually and left the rest as imported page setups.

This also happened again today when plotting to a plotter (not just a plot file) through Publish.
It appears to be sporadic.
Under similar conditions (plotting to plotter), we got it to work, as well. Although that time we did select all the sheets before clicking the Publish button...though I'm sure it's worked before without doing this.
I'm having great difficulty pin-pointing when it occurs, as I know it has worked fine sometimes, and other times has only plotted the first sheet.

so lets conduct a test wherein we can pin point the process that works
and identify what makes it fail.

Build the list as normal
Assign the page setup contained in drawing one to drawing one.
then one by one assign that 'external' page setup to each of the
loaded drawings. Plot the entire list.

What is your result? Success or fail?

I had left out the possibility that you can NOT assign model space
page setups to paper space layouts, guessing that isn't what is happening
here.

You're absolutely right, Michael, I need to be doing more specific tests to pinpoint what is causing this failure. I've been swamped lately and was hoping for an easy answer... :)
When I have a few minutes to spare, I will try some more specific tests of this and will report back with what I find. Hopefully, it's not a bug, just something small and easy to fix on my end.

Here are two easy answers:

Reinstall AutoCAD :banghead:

Take the rest of the week off

Up until the time I read this, I had never had that happen, and then they very day, it did happen. I just assumed I did something wrong, redid it, and it was fine. I wasn't plotting to file, however, I was plotting to a printer.

Seems like maybe it is just a sporadic thing. File it under fluke ;)

Did you build the list and set the page setup
parameters the exact same way both times?
