View Full Version : Files already open freeze and lock read only intermittently

For the past month we have been experiencing intermittent locking of our drawings after they have been opened and worked on. The drawing wil freeze and the drawing name will all of the sudden have read only after it and the user cannot save his work.

We have tried to link it to things like our backup system coming on but have not found a common element to cause this. Has anyone else had this problem?

We are using Autocad 2006

We've had it happen a couple of times too. I noticed ours didn't start until we began using the vault.

We are not using Vault.... Any other suggestions?

Please note I have moved this to the AutoCAD General forum from the non-technical "New User's forum".

Are you using any file accelerators for your WAN like Riverbed or Avail (or both)? I've one other case of this where the dwl file is removed during autosave and another user tries to open the file at the same time and gets it open. It might be a combo of these but the customer never got back to me if they tracked down the source of the culprit.

Please do not use "Multiple-Forum Posting (http://forums.augi.com/faq.php?faq=vb_augi#faq_vb_augi_donts)" per forum guidelines.

We have this problem...It happens when a user has a file open and then another user opens that file...the locked is missed and the user who had originally opened the file goes into read only.

Any ideas on how to fix it....we are using riverbed...but this does happen with users sitting next to each other in the same building.

We have had this intermittently happen. Today as a matter of fact.

We do have Riverbed but this occurred on the same network in the same building on the datacenter side. Not through the Steelhead. Although I don't know if the Steelhead is involved somehow.

Could digital signatures, which we turned off be somehow involved?

We are using MEP 2008 and Arch 2008, Civil3D.

Any resolve to this or anyone know if this is something we have to put up with?

The users currently follow a procedure, if they know someone opened their file, they contact the other user, have them close the file so the first user can save their changes.

Thanks

I have seen this happen when an AutoCAD users computer momentarily loses network connectivity - I've seen this happen during a scheduled/automatic virus scan update. In some instances when it reconnects to the network it appears to recognize the lock file as being held by someone else.

Just check to make sure that Demand Load Xrefs in the Options dialog/Open & Save tab is set to Enabled with copy, not just Enabled.

We have also noticed this issue with CAD files linked into Illustrator files. Once the Illustrator files were closed, the CAD files were able to be saved again.

When I have ran into this problem, I have traced it back to our network.
My work around has been to close your drawing and then reopen the drawing, which is usally "Read Only" do a save as. After the network stablizes, or do a reboot, you can delete the old file and rename your new one.
