I have a structural revit model with a phase for existing and new construction. When my view properties are set to show both phases of construction the existing linework that was orignally hidden displays as solid.
What controls the existing phase linework beside the graphic override tab in the phase dialog box? How can I keep the existing phase linework while showing the new phase?

so to settings-> phases. you will see where the phase filters are created and what the overrides are.

Have you checked the "Settings > Phases > Graphic Overrides" dialogue box? This is where this information is stored.

Phase/Graphic Overrides/Existing sets all the linework to solid and grayscale

Well that's where you can change the output of it. Instead of gray, you could make it pink if you like; solid to dashed.

I don't think I'm asking the right question, I'm only on my first cup of coffee... perhaps some examples would help.
I want the grayscale but keep the hidden linework of the existing.

you could always use the "Linework" tool....? But phases are the way to go if it suits your drawing standards.

The image at left is the structure in its existing state (view properties set to existing), concrete joists below slab shown hidden. The image at right is the structure in its new state (view properties phase set to new) with a new concrete housekeeping pad shown on top of the existing concrete slab.
