When I ID an object such as conduit or a solid blockout I frequently get a Z value of 4.41341200E+3 instead of the correct elevation. X and Y values seem to be correct. Anyone had this happen before?

Yup. The z-value is microscopic, 4.41... x 10^-3. Typically found when bad snap practices, angular alignment (pi resolution), etc. come into play.
