View Full Version : What would make it so you cant place doors/windows in 3D?

Kind of random, and im sure i am overlooking something stupid.

I have a file, very new, only 25 megs, hasnt been worksetted yet. For whatever reason, i can no longer place Doors/Windows/Components in 3D. I get the "no smoking sign" when i pick either of the three from the design bar.

If i go File New Project it works fine.

Ive got this issue with two of my recent models, and i cant seem to figure out what ive done. Is it a setting? Ive already tried setting the workplane to a wall, just for giggles.

Ive also verified the families in question are not the issue.

Thoughts?

Okay, im annoyed. I cant place them in elevation either.

I dont know wtf would cause it, but it has to be some sort of a workplane issue. I can ONLY place items in plan now. Absolutely insane, LOL...

Someone tell me what i did, im having a blonde year...

Okay... So i deleted all of the 3D axon views, and made a new one. It works on MOST walls, UNTIL i rotate the view AT ALL. The moment i do, it never comes back. I have to exit the view and come back. Very weird.

Also, this one wall is acting strange. The issue is with all walls, but look at this image.
At that point on the wall, and all points *east* it will let me add the window. The moment i move *west* the no smoking sign comes up.

Nothing changes in the wall at that point. Its not split, theres nothing hosted, theres no phasing enabled, etc. This wall isnt relevant, becuase thats not even where i want to place the window, but what gives?

I know its something i did, because its happened on two projects in a row, and none of the others.

Holy mind screw. LOL...

I assume you've sent this one in to support... What are you doing in these models anyway Aaron?

I heard if you make the sign of the pentagram with your mouse Revit goes all buggy on you... (joking, obviously...)

Hey,

Check the View Properties and make sure you haven't somehow magically made the view a perspective view...

I checked the view, even recreated it a few times. Its elevations too, for some odd reason. But the axon 3D view, ive recreated a dozen times, and itll work for a second, until i alter the view.

I sent it in with a SR. Havent heard anything back yet. Maybe theyre having a busy day...

I havent forgotten about you either. Ill send you an email or a phone call tonight, i swear... Its been a lonnnnnnnnnnnng couple of months. Ugh...
