Importing .pdf files

Is there a way to import a pdf file and place it directly into a Revit drawing?

Use PhotoShop and open or import the PDF file, then save the PDF file as a JPG or BMP
In Revit go to File/import/image and drop it where you want it. Remember the the scaling will be off and you will need to adjust the image using the resize tool between the mirror icon and group icon.
You can also unlock the proportions, and/or move it to the forground or background etc.
I would not depend on the PDF (now JPG) file to be more than a background because of x,y scaling, but it will help in fast proto layout.

If you have Adobe Acrobat you can open the PDF and do a "Save As" to JPG.

It is frustrating not to be able to import a PDF file. This is just Autodesk's none too subtle arm twisting to get you to use DWF. Someone should tell them the battle is over and they lost.

I might believe that's true if you could import a DWF, but you can't bring in a DWF, either :shock:

Hi all,

I'm brand new to AutoCad ('07) but comfortable with all Adobe, Illustraitor, Photoshop, etc.

Is noted in this thread, you can't import a vector that turns into a spline. The only option is to place the vector and re-draw it.

The problem is (I'm sure most of you have used Illustraitor at some stage) I can draw to my absolute satisfaction a complex vecto shape and have total control of the arcs, etc.

I tried ( oh how I tried) to trace an image I drew in illustraitor ( then exported via pdf, dwg, dwx, everything!!!) but the spline tool is literally ****.

But Given AutoCad is AutoCad, surely there must be a 'tracing' tool or something that I'm not aware of ??

I have attached a pdf of a logo a drew in Illustraitor to demonstraite what I'm rambling on about... Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can't use DWF this way either (in Revit). This is just Autodesk's none too subtle way of being clueless. ;)

You can insert a pdf into autocad however.
Perhaps do that and then insert the cad file into Revit?

Certainly not ideal but a work around.
