View Full Version : Room Tags in rooms not properly defined

I don't know why I haven't run into this before (maybe I have and I forgot the solution) but it appears that when a room is made but is not properly enclosed you cannot tag it in another view (reflected ceiling plan, finish plan, etc). I find this odd - do I have to create a properly enclosed region with room separation lines in order for me to tag these rooms in other views?
Were doing a tenant finish and linking an cad file in for the exterior walls, hence some rooms are not enclosed.

A room is an object, and the object "fills" the area to things that are "room bounding". If you don't have bounding elements, you can't have a room.
So yes, rooms must be rooms (enclosed in some way) to work.

Thats a normal behavior. You need to have a properly enclose region to tag a room. Use the pick tool and add room separation line to close the acad file.

Thanks.
What is confusing me though, is that I can put down a room that is a random rectangular size without any boundaries like walls or separation lines - and Revit will assign it a room tag. So it must recognize that space (it has the X showing the extent of the space). I find it odd that it will do that initially but then refuse to add a tag to it in other views even though when I have the room tag tool selected those unbounded rooms show up in blue.
I guess its just kind of counter-intuitive is all. I'll just remember to use separation lines.

could you copy the tag from the plan view and paste it in the same place in the RCP? This is how i add room tags to my RCP and wondering if this will give you some luck.

No, when you do that Revit just deletes the tags right away.
Anyway, it appears that separation lines are the way to go. Not a big deal - probably should use them to keep the model 'cleaner' anyway.

When Daniel says, "normal" he doesn't mean the "correct" thing. It is a known issue or limitation. When a room is moved outside its boundaries with a tag it will complain but the tag will go along without complaint. If you delete the tag you will not be able to tag it (the room) again until it is properly bounded. That's is just the way it is right now...sorry.
In order to avoid this I make sure to select both the room and the tagbefore I move a room "out of the way" for the moment. As you suggest, sketching room separation lines around a room or rooms temporarily will let you tag them so you can at least see which one is which more easily.
