i'm trying to open a slightly older file (last modified sept. 2007) and when i try to open it, i get an error saying "seek failed" followed by the file name. the journal files open with no problem, it's just the main file that gets the error. does anyone know what this means? is there something wrong with the file? i'm running revit 2008 (with build 20070607_1700).

I've run into this problem before too - usually caused by an abrubt shutdown (crashing, etc)

Here is the link that helped me:

There should be a revit temp file with no extension in that directory with the relatively same file size and date from the last time you saved that particular file. Sorting by date is easiest way to find since there are thousands of files in that folder.

Hope this helps.

I had the "seek failed" issue recently when I tried to open an older file (previous to 2008) (edit: at least I think that's the message I got - my memory could be playing tricks on me). I assumed it to be due to the Y2K8 bug.

Updating to the latest service pack (20080101_2345) fixed the issue.
