View Full Version : Annotative attributes do NOT resize

I have created a 2x4 light block with an attribute to identify the light type. The block is not annotative because it should always be 2x4. I want the attributes to scale automatically though. I followed Heidi Hewett's directions and it does not work correctly. I have also searched this forum and Autodesk's. I found a post or two with the same question but no answer.
I have an annotative text style and I make the attribute annotative. I give it the 3 scales I want it to display at, plus 1'-0" = 1'-0" because it really goes crazy without that. The block looks good as a separate drawing or in the block editor and the attribute changes size when I change annotation scales. However, when I insert it into a plan drawing the attribute takes the size of the current annotation scale but will not change if I change to a different annotation scale as defined in the block. If I use battman on the block it will resize the attribute but that hardly makes it automatic. Attsync does nothing.
Any ideas?

What software are you using. I might be able to help out if you are using AutoCAD MEP.
Check the annotation scale tool at the bottom right of your screen. It is always displayed when in Model space but in Paper space it is only displayed if you select the viewport. This tool should be set to what scale you want to be viewing your text in. You shouldn't have to have 1:1 assigned if you dont want it. If there are multiple scales assigned to the text and this tool is set to one of those scales it will only display at that scale that the annotation tool is set to. There is also a button on this tool bar to turn the visibility of other scales off. This is helpful in Paper space if there is text at mutiple scales on an object but you only want to see one of them. This will also scale your line types which is helpful with hidden lines or phantom lines to show you what they actually will be displayed at to scale. Dont forget to "regen" if something looks off!!

From paperspace, select your viewport and verify that you have set the annotative scale for it (bottom right of screen).

Upon further review... I think some of my problems are because I am trying to update blocks in a 2006 drawing. The behavior seems to be very erratic. Starting from scratch I have found that I have to make the attribute annotative with an annotative text style and have annoautoscale set to a positive value. I cannot limit the annotative scales for the block but at least it will resize as desired. Limiting the scales is probably not necessary. I'll do some more experimenting and post my results if I stumble across anything not already stated. I hate threads that don't have a resolution.
Thanks for everybody's help.

I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly or not. But I will try. I had a similar problem with some tags that I was creating. I created the tag, tested it, and it worked fine. But when i inserted it into a different drawing, it would use the current annotation scale, and would not scale up or down when I change the annotation scale.
When I created the tag I placed it on a tool palette. When I opened a separate drawing file with the things that i needed to tag I used the tool on the palette to tag my objects. Well come to find out the tool on the palette was not storing all of the scales that I had saved to it in the original drawing.
So what I have to do is tag everything that needs to be tagged. Select one of the tags, right-click, select similar in order to get all of them. Then I add the scales using that method. Then they scale up and down properly and it only has to be done once.
I don't know if this is an unneccessary way of doing things. I have posted this question on several forums but not gotten any replies. Maybe this will help you determine what the problem is.

I am having troubles with my 2x4 ltg block also. Got my receptacle block to work no problem. I have tried many combinations to get the 2x4 to work, but have not succeeded so far. Text is always the wrong size.

I figured it out. I have created instructions and a block for people to use and modify.

Works for me, and I like the tutorial.
