new member - problem with shadows?

hello, thanks for your advices, and i have another question....
is there any way to diffuse shadows more without loosing reflections?

Is that black area a window?window to another room or outside?maybe you need to change color of the glass.default color of the glass is dark grey,change it to white.
if the window go to another room, put a light into that room. if outside put the background image.
you have a good bamboo pattern, but it looks so uniform.create 2 or more material with the same pattern, but change the u-v value.
