View Full Version : Cannot Delete/Manipulate Curtain Wall?

I have several instances of the same curtain wall in a project. For some unknown reason, one of the instances will not let me do anything to it - stretch, rotate, mirror, delete...and even the "pin" is grayed out. When I click on the curtain wall, the only thing that appears is the double arrow "flip wall" symbol. The "make element editable" and "configure grid layout" symbols do not appear. The only thing I seem to be able to do is move or copy it.

The other instances of this same curtain wall are fine. The "flip wall", "make element editable" and "configure grid layout" symbols all appear when I select them, and all of the normal operations are available to me.

This is a local copy of a central file, however I am the only one working in it today, and have tried working with the wall in the central file directly.

Any help would be hot. :-D

Is the wall in a design option?

Is the wall in a design option?

I'm not sure what that is. How do I check for it and change it?

Thank you!

Right click in some empty space at your Revit icons bar and check if 'Design Options' is marked. If yes, you should be able to access it and see if you have any design options in the the project. Maybe that curtain wall is part of a design option and therefore you can only edit it while editing the design option itself.

I hope it helps.

Reading again your post, I notice that if you are able to move and copy it, Design Option shouldn't be the case...

At least you know where is it now.

Could it be on a workset and you have the Grey Inactive Workset and Editable Only option check?

I found Design Option (I need to look up what it actually is), and it looks like there are no Design Options in the model.

Sadly, no. We have the entire building in one workset and are using the on demand element borrowing method for sharing the model. (We are a small office.) I did double check this, based upon your comment though.

GAH! Any more ideas? Once again, Revit is going to make me pull all of my hair out.

I just encountered the same problem bluserfer was talking about with a curtain wall that can't be edited or deleted. It isn't in a design option and the worksets are all editable. I can move and copy it but I can't edit it in any other way or delete it. Has anyone been able to resolve this?

In the element properties of the curtain wall, in the Family box pull down does it say "System Family: Ruled Curtain System"? If so it was created using lines to create a curtain wall system. In this case the element will be impossible to edit. You should delete it and create a new curtain wall using the wall tool.

It wasn't created using lines it was made like a typical wall. I would love to delete it but I can't. It won't allow me to delete, edit profile, and the grips won't show up.

Wow, finally someone has found a way to delete curtain walls. I have been searching the forums for the last two days trying to figure out how to delete some curtains walls i added in Revit Structure 2009. I selected the panels, changed them to regular wall family, and poof, they deleted themselves. Then the grids and mullions can just be deleted like normal.

Thanks

PS Why do curtain walls simply not delete? This is really stupid programming.

In case anyone reads these posts again, I would recommend checking the view Discipline as well. Even when switched to coordination, it would at times not let you select the curtain wall unless in the specific discipline. Hope this helps someone.
