Is there a way to get Revit to NOT open a default template file when I first open Revit?

I would prefer it to open nothing or simply the open dialogue box would be great?

This is not possible. Some have suggested making a very "lightweight" tamplate as the default and then using the open command to open a "real" project template.

Please check before making a separate 'lightweight' template. I was worried about this (our template was around 10 mb). But we realized it took around 3 secs to copy a 10 mb file over the network and the difference in the time taken for revit to open the light and the real one was around 10 secs only. So we decided to leave the real one as the template.

I've also read about people pointing the default template to a location that doesn't exist. But then you get a warning message that pops up every time you open Revit, which I think would just confuse new users.

Actually we found a way to get Revit to open without a template. Inadvertently.

We lost connection to all our default tempalte locations and then Revit opened with no project. A gray screen.
Then we hit the New Project icon and it opened a project with minimal wall types, no windows, doors, or really any content.

I'm not recommending it as a strategy, but you could do that and save the file as a template and see what you get.
