I am building up a paper copy of our electronic Revit library. I have create a template sheet I want to use. Now I want to great a sheet in the library families for printing (a sheet with a plan, elevation, 3D and some text).
Now it seems I cant create sheets in a family although there is a sheet catagory in the browser.
Can someone clarify this!

I don't think they ever expected to present a family in the context of a sheet, within the family file itself. The sheet category exists because sheets are a family too.
If you want to present your families formally you could load them into a project and present them in views on sheets there instead? A project for doors...windows...etc. One view for elevations, one view for plan, one view for 3D...each showing a single door or several or all depending on how many you have.

Or you could use detail lines in all your views to create 'sheets' just to get the print size right. Views in Families can be printed. But you shouldn't expect tags like scale and view name to auto-adjust.
Any more sophisticated printing wishes than that, load into project. You can do multiple at once using more views and crop/clip them accordingly with your needs. (heck someone did that once just to create an option catalogue)
