View Full Version : Turning off wall layers

Is there anyway to turn off the additional layers of a wall style. I have a wall style that is composed by CMU core and layers of stucco finish, mtl furring and GWB. I need to be able to turn those layers on and off so I can have only the CMU wall in some stages. I tried the structural setting but it turns off only non-structural layer but not the finishes. It would be nice that structural view shows only structural elements and not the finishes. Any ideas how to do that.
Thanks

In the left bottom of your screen there are 3 options for detail view: core, medium and detail. Change your detail view to "core structure".

Thanks Carlos for you answer but I don't understand where those bottoms are. I only see the view detail options that are Coarse, medium and fine. Is there an option for core structure?
thanks again

Yes, that is it. I did not have Revit in front of me, but that is the tool that you can use if you want to display just the core or the core with details (finishes). Is this what you want to accomplish?

Carlos-
To clarify, Coarlse level of detail does NOT remove the finish layers, it just soes not show the divisions between the layers. The wall will retain its overall thickness.
Im pretty sure right now it is not an option, unless you implore some trickery... A la model them as seperate walls and use a filter set to not display walls with a comment called Finishes, or something... Not a clean solution, by any means...

When I got Carlos's response I got very excited, thinking that revit has an option to show just the structural core without any finishes. I hope the factory can add this valuable feature to the Revit core in the near future. I need to send my drawings to engineers and they constantly complain about some many lines on my walls. I wish I can turn them off before export to autocad.

I am sorry, I missunderstood your question, that is right, with detail course you still will see the whole thickness of the wall.
But one way to work around this (kind of cheating) would be if you have your wall section, go to the drafting tab and use the "masking region" tool with invisible lines and wipe out the exterior finishes that you do not want to see. If you need it you can use the line tool to draw part of the wall that is not showing up.

This is one of those topics that's come up a bunch of times and has been on the wishlist for a long while.
There is a work-around that can get you most of the way there, though it's certainly a kludge.

Hope that helps.

Could you not also use the "invisible line" tool and select all the lines which should not display. Tedious but workable? I've never tried it in plan, only interior elevations and section or plan details.
It's the little button in the upper left section of the tool bar that looks like the end of an old fashioned quill pen (I think - I don't have Revit up yet).
