is it possible to get insulation to fill the red area, but not going outside of the highlighted area?

Not automatically. You will need to add piece of insulation

I just switch to a smaller size insulation. But you could make a detail component for those conditions. I give the contractors some credit for knowing to stuff the heck out of those spots, just make sure you show the insulation baffle.

You should be using an energy heel there and not letting the insulation get thin. Poor detail as this will cause major icing problems in wintery areas. With barely R10 at the compression point heat will easily escape creating water and ice backup under the shingles. We stopped doing this detail years ago.

granted, but this is only a tiny lean to extension (tiled roof under 1.7m wide only) so client wants the cheapest option :)
