Does anyone know what this means? We are in worksharing mode and I was in the workset "Skins" and my co-worker was in workset "Clubhouse". I saved to central and got this error. Revit allowed me to continue on but I am worried this will result in errors in schedules. Any ideas?
Thanks!

The Mark is the door number. You have two dors with the same number. They will both show on the schedule, but there will be confusion as to which is which. You can review these sorts of issues under Tools > Review Warnings.

When you use the Tools > Review Warnings it only allows you to delete duplicate mark values. We have a project where we have many duplicated mark values due to the amount of people we have working in different worksets (at least I think this is the reason why this happened...any other insight?), so we are having the same issues. Is there an easy way, aside from creating a schedule listing out each item showing its mark and changing them manually, to change mark values to address the warnings?

Those warnings should also contain a "Show" option, which will take you to the door, and highlight it. You can then work through the list. The warnings will disappear when one of the doors is renumbered. A Huge list of warnings/errors will eventually add significantly to the speed of the file.

Why does this happen so often for some projects and not others..?
Is it because of Groups?

Possibly, but the Door mark is actually accessible outside of the groups. The door tagging symbol may also have something to do with it.

Hey guys,
Actually this doesn't have anything to do with Groups or tags, per se, but everything to do with the Mark parameter (Instance value) of the doors. The fact that the doors are within the groups is a byproduct. The Tags are merely reporting the values within the doors. By the way, this will occur with anything that is using Mark values (ie Windows, light fixtures, furniture, etc.).
This effect is notorious in Workset enabled projects, due mainly to the delayed effect of the actual doors being placed first in the users Local file, and then saved into the Central file. Two users (or more) can place the same door # (ie #201) on separate floors (or the same floor), at the same time, and the Warning won't show until the next STC (Save to Central) cycle.
To avoid this (and you're going to hate me for this)... is to Plan and Communicate! When you place a door, it will automatically number it after the last one that was placed in your sessions model. So, if you're working on level 2, place one door, renumber it immediately to be 201 (for example), then keep placing. The next one will be 202, then 203, etc. . Your coworker, who is on level 4... number his doors 401, etc. etc. More than likely, you'll have to renumber these later anyway - but it will avoid the issues of duplicate mark values.
If you're on the same level, it's a little more tricky as you're both going to be dealing with the same # series. A more subtle & systematic process might be to place all your doors, STC, then plan on one person going to the door schedule and renumbering immediately afterwards.
Hope this helps,
Kyle

Kyle, are you using the mark values in your tags and scheduling? In MEP land, we are not able to use the mark parameter for scheduling due to the graphical appearance of our tags and since we have multiple equipment tags with the conventional numbering sequence (ie EF-1, 2, 3 and CH-1, 2, 3). Have you found a way to easily number your doors sequentially after your STC or is this just a time intensive task?

Hey, Neil.
Those Duplicate Marks better not be on a model you got from us!
There are a couple of tools floating around. One from Avatech,
http://www.avatech.com/solutions/building-design/product-details.aspx?product=44
and one from ReviTTools
http://www.revittools.info/
that can automatically renumber Doors. If it's something else, like equipment, you're probably out of luck.
This problem happens, not necessarily because of Worksets, but because two people are working in the same model. When you place a Door, Revit automatically gives it a number one larger than the previous. Since you're making a Local Copy, you both start from the same number.
Not sure if MEP is the same way, but for our Doors, the number (aka Mark) is going to be wrong anyway early in the project. Once the client has decided on their numbering scheme, we work it out on plan and check the schedule to find duplicates.

No Dave, you're safe! I think that you brought these tools up at a MNRUG meeting, but I forgot about them. It looks like we are going to have to go the old fashioned way for equipment...for now. Thanks!
