Revit Link, whats the 1(<Not Shared>) for?

This should be basic. I'd like to get some concepts here.

So I link in a Revit file and go to the visibility graphics dialog box. I now have a Revit Links tab. I can modify how the linked revit model is displayed. I've got that.

I see the linked model listed (in my example 0607 Central.rvt) Display Setting "By Host View" below it I see 1(<Not Shared>). "Not Overridden"

1 - What is that?
2 - Why are there two items listed?
3 - Which 'should' I use to modify the view settings.

The 1(<Not Shared>) is the instance of the linked Revit file and the row above it is the type. If you were placing condo units onto a site - the condo being a single Revit file - you would link it in and copy it around the site. You can control each instance of the link individually. Each link instance would have it's own Shared Coordinate location - such as Plot 1, Plot 2, etc.

If you're dealing with just one instance of the link, you can just use the override button next to the file name, as the instance will be the same.

Ok Thanks that makes sense. I tried adjusting both and they seemed to do the same thing. Now I know why. Thanks!
