existing walls?

When showing existing and new work the plans seem to read fine, but when I get to the 3D and elevation views it does not seem to have the same visibility ideas carried through. The out of the box Revit graphic overrides show that the existing walls should have no surface patterns or cut patterns, which is the case in plan but not 3D and elevation. Is there a setting somewhere that can control this based on the phase or will I have to control this as a case by case instance with a filter or graphic override?

Settings > Phases > Graphic Overrides. I believe OOTB they have the Existing to be Overidden with a Material, that affects both 3D and Plan.

That's what it says, but isn't what it actually does. See the attached visual right from a default out of the box template file

In the view properties of that 3D view under phases, change the phase setting to "show complete".
