Using Control arrows in Families

I made a family of a column with brackets. In some cases the column will only have a bracket on one side. What I would like to do is be able to flip the bracket to the right or left side of the column using the control arrows. I tried inserting "double horizontal" control arrows in the family, but when I click on them they don't do anything, so there must be more to it. As always I appreciate your great help.

Never mind...I found out that the control arrows won't flip the family until the family is inserted in the project. So you can't test it out until it's inserted.
