I am working on a Residental plan. I am trying to "trace" the first floor walls that i have set as an Underlay on my Foundation Plan. On the First Floor wall reference i can only see the "Outer" edges of the wall. For example, the 2 lines i see for the wall are the exerior siding and the Drywall (Sheetrock). I dont see the "Framing". I would like to be able to see the Framing Layers so i know where to trace the Foundation walls from. Any ideas?
Thanks

You can't change the Underlay display, it's always displaying Coarse.

I was hoping that wasnt going to be the answer. Thanks though!

Hey there,
If you know the GWB & siding thickness, then you could use the "pick" wall command with an offset to match the material thickness. You would then be aligning with the framing.
Just an idea.

The align tool will still work though. You cna use that to alignto center of core.

Hey there,
This is true; however, your building wall and stem wall must have the same thickness if you want the exterior faces of both cores to align in order to have a continuous exterior finish lap over your stem wall. (Unless of course you want to have a stepped condition between the wall and stem.)
Sometimes, the stem wall may be a 12" masonry or concrete wall and the wall above will be an 8" block or 6" stud w/ plywood sheathing and you want the exterior core faces aligned so that your stucco or sheathing will continue down over the stem wall.
Lots the options; however, in my opinion, I like to model things as they will be actually be built.
Thanks

Steve,
Thanks for you input. I agree with you, I wouldnt want to draw something that is not how it will be built in the field. To me that is just sloppy work. I think i will use your idea on setting the offset for the siding and sheathing. That seems to be the quickest and most accurate.

If your framed walls have the outside face of the stud as one of the defined location lines (e.g. outside face of core) you can select all the walls on the first floor, copy to clipboard, paste aligned same place. Ignore the overlapping walls warning. While the walls are still highlighted go to the type selector and change them to the appropriate foundation wall type and reset the top and bottom constraints as required.
The added advantage of this method is that Revit will automatically set up a relationship between the two sets of walls so if one moves, the other will follow.
I've attached a little avi of the procedure
