Hi all
I have been using Revit since version 5.0 but have never had the need to use property lines.
This may sound like a stupid question but what are property lines for ?
If I have to sketch a site boundary I usually make a line type and draw the boundary as a 2d detail line.
What do property lines offer, any special features ?
I feel that I am missing something here.
A simple explanation of their features would be helpful.
Many Thanks
Dave

The property lines have some interesting features. You can input the lines in a table, which is really nice. A lot of surveys out there are hand-drawn, so, this feature is useful for converting hand-drawn information into Revit.
Then, you can get area information, which is also nice.

In addition:
A. The area and parcel can be tagged.
B. The property line bearing and distance can be atgged.

Area information and automatic annotation are the tip of the iceberg. You can create other parameters and assign them to the property line category. Lot number, parcel, development zone etc can all be used and then assigned to masses so you can perform all sorts of calculations in a schedule relating to density of a development or property.

Sure would be nice to be able to drape them over a topo.

You can schedule property lines but you can't access the value of the property line area in your room/area calcs or the other way around. You'll need to enter the value manually in your area schedule to calculate FSR, site coverage and other zoning related info.

A bit of a clumsy work around but you can create a sub-region by picking the property line and then offsetting the sketch to create a 'ribbon' that you can then assign a different material to. It will conform to the surface.
