Simple - padlock how to get it to show

this is a simple one im sure, sometimes i'll insert an object and forget to lock it then i got back and the padlock to lock the object wont show unless i align it to something.

is there a way of getting it to show by just clicking on the object.

You'd have to use the align command, as it is setting up the constraint between two objects that the lock needs to reference.

cheers i was afraid of that lol as sometimes i have to move something away then align so i can lock it :(

Generally there should be no need to move it so you can align. Select the align tool and then hover the cursor over the object to align. Keep an eye on the status line at the bottom left corner of your Revit window. It will let you know what object you have pre-highlighted. If it's not the right one you hit the tab key to cycle trough available objects until the right one shows up.
