I think modifying 3d models in AutoCAD is very weak.because 3modeling in acad is not Dynamic.i think it will be so easy to change the height of an box with property panel instead of solid edit command.

Hi

Couldn't agree more that AutoCAD's 3D Modelling capabilities are pretty work, especially for a product that is meant to be a leader in it's field.

Ok! people might say it's a leader within 2D CAD, but for the money AutoCAD costs it's all round 3D capabilities should be an awful lot better.

Sadly, IF AutoDesk made the 3d tools better in regular AutoCAD
one wouldn't be able to justify buying VIZ or MAX.

The rendering and animation in Viz & Max are far superior, which is reason enough to buy them. The least they could do for us is include dynamic 3D modeling within "vanilla" AutoCAD.

Hello -

The dynamic 3D Modeling package for the AutoCAD platform is already existing - it's Mechanical Desktop. Actually, between Inventor, Mech Desktop, and AutoCAD Mechanical (all known as the Inventor Series now), you have a complete Model to Shop Print package with hordes of useful features. Inventor / Mechanical desktop actually automate a great deal of the work needed for 3D modeling, and by taking the model next over to AutoCAD Mechanical (perhaps the leader in 2D *Mechanical* CAD), one already has most of the tedious drafting work done.

I'm wondering if vanilla AutoCAD is really justifiable in using anymore for doing professional work, being that Autodesk has discipline-specific versions to spare. Electrical, Building Systems, ADT, MDT, etc...why would anyone be drawing in a basic program instead of using the tools and features of a more applicable, specific package? Perhaps price and specialization are the only answers...

Thanks for reading,
Albert

Hello -

Simple answer, because one cannot justify any of the specialized packages, either in cost or learning curve. I have looked at the Inventor series programs and there are only a very few things in any of them that could conceivably justify the expenditure for myself or those who work for me. We don't do enough 3d work to justify buying specialized software to do it, but having dynamic 3d modelling in vanilla Acad would be a great addition.

Yes, that's very true, the learning curve and cost would be very high ("price and specialization"). And essentially, wouldn't adding in a dynamic feature to AutoCAD make it a Mechanical Desktop without all of the automatic features, making it harder to operate? Perhaps it would be better still to have a "Dynamic Feature Add-on Module" that could be purchased and added into vanilla AutoCAD, offering maybe a popup-window based system or something along those lines. The purpose of the Module would be to take CAD's 3D system from Basic to Intermediate, still leaving MDT and Inventor for the Advanced/Expert work. Something to bridge the gap..
