cutting a mass?

Is it possible to cut geometry from an extrusion... Since I can't figure out how to place can lights on an arched ceiling, I am atleast trying to cut an opening in the arch so you can see the can lights above, giving the illusion that the lights are there.

Sure, just use a void form, then the cut geometry tool. You can cut through extrusions, walls, roofs, floors, etc...
