View Full Version : Wall Tag Leaders - extending and adding

Alright my CAD standards manager is getting picky.
Currently Revit wall tag leaders end in the middle of the wall. Is there a way to have the leader extend past the assembly of the wall without making the leader a "free end" and manually manipulating every single leader?
Secondly is there a way to add another leader to a tag? We have some tight situations where calling off two walls with one tag would clear up some space. I would like to avoid using detailing lines if at all possible.
Any suggestions or do I tell my CAD standards manager the standard is a changin'? Thanks.

The standard are a changing!
I am not sure about adjusting where the leader ends as I have never looked into it. It is just such a minor thing no one should really care. As for adding a leader to a wall tag to tag another wall, I am pretty sure you cannot do that. Tags are attached to an object and I am fairly certain you cannot attach one tag to more than one object. In the situation you have described I would use a detail line or try to squeze in another wall tag.
I am not sure how long your office has been using revit. But IMO I would not try to force your old CAD / drafting standard onto Revit. Try to work within the Revit frame work and make tweaks as you see fit. But I wouldn't recomend going way out of your way to apply an old CAD standard to revit. It is just not very productive and you will end up fighting the software more than needs be.

This is paramount, if your firm is new to Revit. If you investigate what Revit can do to streamline your process, and then adapt your standards to fit it, youll have great success.
If your "CAD Manager" sees fit to FORCE Revit to confirm to an antiquated Graphical standard, get ready for a few things: Having to work way too hard to achieve the same goals, having a much mess efficient and much less automated model, and to (in the end) not see as big of an ROI on using revit.
Make them understand quickly that the methods and the graphics are going to have to change, and that its worth it. :)

Thanks for the help and advice. I had a feeling it wouldn't work, but it's good to have a straight answer.
Yes, we are new to Revit and I am trying to get that same message across to the project leads. I wanted to basically scrap our standards and start from the ground up, making our standard easier to use instead of forcing a square peg through a round hole. But you guys definitely put it in better terms that I did.

Sell them on that, and youre so money.
Thats basically the approach we took, after awhile. We had standards that we tried to force in to Revit, then after awhile of using them, we said "File > New" on the standards. :)
