View Full Version : Curved Grids Dimensioning

I am being told that I need to dimension from our grid line (curved) to the outside face of a wall that runs somewhat parallel to the grid line. A linear dimension has been requested since the radius of the arc is hundreds of feet. Is it possible to do this without using reference planes? We seem to have a problem on our (too large) production team of people inadvertently deleting ref planes. I've attached a graphic of what I am trying to accomplish.
Thank you.

You'd have to get some sort of straight reference line tangent to your curved grid, and parallel to whatever your dimensioning to.
The tangent line to the curved grid doesn't have to be a ref plane. You could use a short straight grid line with a custom grid head that you could add the text "dimension reference" or some other abbreviation, or just a grid with no head. You could also use a detail line.
Then after placing the straight reference line, pin it, so if it gets deleted, they get a warning.

I know you need a fix now, but.....Revit 2009 will allow this, because you will be able to dimension to the intersection of objects. In your case, the intersection of the wall and grid, and then the endpoint of the face of the outside wall.

Scott,
Thanks for the response, it is reassuring to know that help's on the way, especially since we seem to be addicted to curved buildings lately. I've heard a lot of good things about 2009... can't wait to upgrade!
