Custom Filled Regions

Revit Architecture 2008

How do you create your own hatch pattern for a filled region? Is there some way to create a repeating pattern or symbol outside of Revit and import it in? If so, what programs have importable file formats?

If anyone has experience with this, Please let me know!

C:\Program Files\Revit Architecture 2008\Data\revit.pat
There's a fairly detailed explanation of how to create a Hatch Pattern on the top of the file.
