Im waiting to hear from our IT guy, but i thought i would post this hear too.

Background info:
AMD 64X2 Dual Core 3800+
4gb Ram (Brand new)
Windows XP Pro SP2 (just reformatted and installed, no errors)
Updates installed as well as new Bios drivers

Issues:
-I have had an install issue with Adobe CS3, and then had issues uninstalling too. At which one point a Check Disk was ran automatically (i wasn't watching but i looked over at one point and it was running, and came back fine too)
-Then i had issues being able to run Firefox

I checked the Event viewer and found Application Errors for the 2 times i tried install CS3 as well as the multiple Application Errors trying to run Firefox various time.

I ran a memory check before reformatting and reinstalling, after 6 passes the diagnostic came back clean.

What would be causing install errors and application errors? Hard Drive?

Thanks,
Kenton

One way to check the hard drive is in windows, inside the chkdsk window, select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This will prompt you to schedule the chkdsk next time you restart the computer. Do so and see what happens. This is a more intensive check than if you just do it inside windows.

You running virus protection? A virus can do all kinds of strange things.

Might sound unusual but I've had problems in the past with old/bad cables corrupting data between the cd, motherboard and harddrive. Are the ide/sata cables new? can you swap them and see if they are ok?

The other main cause could be a failing motherboard, unusual if the system is new / fairly new. But they can fail especially if you don't have any UPS or at least surge protection.

Run prime95 (I think thats the one) to make sure the proccessor is not faulty. You might also want to try running some burn-in software to check the motherboard. Sisoft Sandra has a free burn-in software that might do it.
