AUTODESK SECOND QUARTER REVENUES INCREASE 32 PERCENT

Autodesk’s strong performance was driven by increasing penetration of its 3D products, broad adoption of the AutoCAD 2005 family of products, continued success with the subscription and marketing programs and ongoing commitment to improved productivity and efficiency.
Revenue from the company’s 3D products Autodesk Inventor Series, Autodesk Inventor Professional, Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Revit Series increased 64 percent over the prior year. During the quarter, the company shipped strong new releases of its Inventor product line, the world’s best-selling 3D mechanical design software. Inventor 9 allows users to better manage and communicate design data, deliver designs in less time, get their drawings production-ready in the fastest way possible, and learn and deploy the product quickly. Autodesk Revit, the company’s 3D building information modeling solution, also saw strong adoption during the quarter, particularly in China.

Good news, though I suspect Revit sales have been dismal til now since the resellers are just beginning to wake up, as is the rest of the design community.

Two Words: Unicode Fonts.

I've never had to use them, but apparently AutoCAD's support of Unicode fonts isn't very good, and until recently wasn't even supported. Revit uses Windows Standard Fonts, which include Unicode Fonts. This mean that Asian languages, like Chinese, Korean, and Japanese are fully supported within Revit, and until recently, you had to buy add-ons for AutoCAD, and the support simply wasn't there.

So now, with Revit, a Chinese Architect can use Chinese characters in the same way as they do in their other applications, like Word and such. That's got to be a huge draw right there, I know it would be for me if I was in their shoes. Why choose to continue using an application that doesn't even understand your language? ;)

I knew I should have taken that internship as a United Nations translator! The experience would have been useful!

Fortunately, we have an excellent localization team that handles the translations. I guess I can cancel my request for a Chinese language tutor!
