View Full Version : I'm Having 2008 SP3 Problems.... Help Needed!

OK, I downloaded SP3 and attempted to install the latest Revit 2008 Build onto my Laptop. I had 2008 SP1 installed on my laptop and everything worked fine prior to installing SP3.
Just a quick side note: My firm has a network version of Revit, so my laptop needs to access the network license manager to obtain a floating license. In the past when I needed to work at home I would log onto my firm's network through a (VPN) virtual private network, and obtain a license.
So once I installed SP3 Revit no longer was able to obtain a license via our network license manager. See the attached image for the error message I received. I verified that Revit is looking for the network license manager with the identical I.P. address as I had with SP1. I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong here or if I missed something.

Are there other machines in your office running SP3 that you could maybe look at and compare settings?

We had a similar issue with other 2008/2007 Autodesk products over the WAN and VPN and had to add an environment variable to our computers. See the following info:
Issue
When you tried to obtain a license remotely for a network-licensed AutoCADĀ® 2007-based product from the license server, you could not. However, you were able to obtain a license for a previous version of the product.
You were first presented with the FLEXlm License Finder dialog box, and then you received the following error message:
A valid license could not be obtained by the network license manager.
Error [1.5.-15]
With some products, you may also receive the following error message:
A valid license could not be obtained by the network license manager.
Error [1.5.-18]
Solution
This situation can occur when you access the license manager through a VPN, dial-up or a slow DSL/ISDN link.
AutoCADĀ® 2007-based products contain licensing enhancements that increase network bandwidth and latency requirements. To resolve this problem, it is strongly recommended that you increase network bandwidth or reduce latency to an acceptable level so the license management technology can function correctly.
If increasing network bandwidth is not an option, you can increase the amount of time the program waits for a response from the license manager by configuring an environment variable at the client workstation. Follow these steps:
1. Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
4. In the Environment Variables dialog box, under System Variables, click New.
5. In the New User Variable dialog box, enter FLEXLM_TIMEOUT for the name and 1000000 for the value.
6. Click OK to close each dialog box.
7. Launch the Autodesk application.
If you are able to obtain a license, the value of 1000000 microseconds (1 second) is sufficient. If you still cannot obtain a license, repeat the procedure; increasing the value in 1000000 microsecond increments until you are able to obtain a license from the license server
Give this a shot

Yeah, we installed the latest build onto 2 desktops last week. They are working correctly, but they also do not need to access the network through a VPN. The interesting thing is... when I hook up the laptop directly to our network it still does obtain a floating license.... What the heck???
Thanks though.

I had to do this to my laptop with 2008 SP1 and I eventually got everything to work. But once SP3 was installed it no longer worked. I'm currently reinstalling Revit 2008 SP3 as I post this message and I will go through the process again. I'll let you know how it goes.
How high can you set the timeout to be??
Thanks
