I have an Architect that has asked me to make him a schedule that has the following information in it and I am not sure how to get some of the fields filled out automatically from model information.
room number (not a problem to get this)
room name (not a problem to get this)
dimension in 'X' direction
dimension in 'Y' direction
room area (in both metric and english units)
Thanks for your help!

It isnt going to schedule the dimensions without an unintelligent workaround. There are several theoretical reasons for why, but the short answer is its not going to work.

"unintelligent workaround" I don't understand this.....how would REVIT calculate the area then? There has to be a project parameter I could build or setup using a formula maybe then right?
What about getting both metric and english in my area fields?

Trust me, its not that there is a formula that you need to sneak out. Its not there.
Revit is calculating the area based on the space between all of the room bounding elements... But that doesnt always equate to a box, so there are a lot more factors than simply LxW. Consider this: If one of your room bounding walls is a radiused wall, how do you want Revit to handle the Length of the room?
What im saying by unintelligent workaround, is that you can add in text parameters to your schedule, but they wont be tied to any model data.
As an aside, you COULD make a Line Based Family (Furniture catagory, perhaps?) and you could stretch it like dimensions, then schedule those families in a fashion that would be similar to live dimensioning... But at the end of the day youll spend enough time that you might as well just dimension the plan and be done with it, lol...

Revit triangulates the room area, then adds the triangles together.
We usually use floor plans with internal dimensioning, and white dimension and extention lines. The dimension values get a prefix ◄ (alt 273) and a suffix ► (alt 272). An alternative for the arrow symbols is < and >.
Add a room tag in there, and you're done. You'll have to invent something to live up to the architect's request any other way.
You will have a problem getting imperial and metric area in the same schedule. But you can get a formula field to calculate one from the other.

There have been a number of threads with discussions along the line of room dimensions and if you do a search you should get the 'unintelligent' workarounds Aaron mentioned.
As for areas in metric and imperial units in a schedule (or tag for that matter) you can simply duplicate the area parameter and change the formatting to report areas in whatever format you need or go the formula route as Bram suggests.

Use a Calculated Value in the schedule to get a second Area column, and set the units to sq.ft.
You can't get automated X and Y dimensions, as not all rooms are rectangular, and therefore Revit does not use gross X and Y dimensions in the calculation. These figures will have to be added using a Shared Parameter for the Rooms, or by hand.

So here's what I did and seems to work out pretty good.
I added the length and width in project shared parameters for rooms. Then I entered each dimension (length and width) for each room area defined.
I added another calculated field in the schedule and used this formula to get the english version alongside the sq meters column. Area * 10.76
Voila!!
A little work, but it got the job done!
Thanks to everyone for helping out!
