View Full Version : How to remove "Shared Coordinates"?

Hello:
We're having problems saving a Revit project due to cryptic "shared coordinates" messages. The project has several AutoCAD drawings and Revit projects linked into it. When a user attempts a "Save to Central", Revit says it cannot save some of the linked projects due to shared coordinates issues.
I would like to remove shared coordinates from this project and rely on aligning the linked projects by reference planes and grid lines instead.
Is there any way to accomplish this, short of removing all linked files, then re-linking them?

I was already thinking "remove the links and relink and realign" before I got to the last line of your message :)
If you're going to realign, why is there a problem with relinking? Are there several linked files in the project?
You may also try, if it doesn't cause too much work to be lost, opening the central file, resaving as local. I'm guessing this is a local file being saved back to central after performing some work? If the central file is still ok, you can try that.

The error message is well known and also harmless. It usually goes away when you go to manage links and use "Reload From" for each linked file.

Resurrecting a (really) old thread - CAN shared coordinates be undone? I have a project team that applied shared coordinates. Then rotated Project North on one on the linked buildings, and now they have persistent placement problems. I'd like to undo/release the coordinates tracking - possible?

I would like to remove shared coordinates from this project and rely on aligning the linked projects by reference planes and grid lines instead.
Depending on how much view dependent data you have, that could be a lot of work. I myself wouldn't do it.
Will you be doing clash detection, energy or shadow analysis? You will want your building located accurately in all views.

I suspect it's the late action of rotating the building file's Project North that messed things up, but that saved a ton of time setting up sheets in that file, so it's here to stay. I can't 'reset' the shared coordinates between those files, though, and it's become a problem.
Anyone else found a way to resolve this? As a last resort I can link/bind to make a new file, without SC applied, but that loses all documentation.

When you pick on any link, its properties will show "shared". Click tha button and change it to not shared. This should do it.

OMG seriously? I had not seen the forest through the trees! Thanks, Scott!
