I didn't find anything on this, but I'm sure it's been asked before.

If I have a project on my work network, but want to work on it at home on my laptop, how do I go about doing that? Do I copy the entire project to my laptop, then work on it, then come to work and overwrite the old file with the new one? Is there some other way to do this?

Not unless you can set up a VPN.

You would need to purchase a Vitrual Private Network Service. (VPN). Cisco is one. You then link in directly to your firms network from the outside world on a secure line.

OOOOhhh I see. Yeah, Deputy Dog (IT guy's nick name, well that and Chloe (from 24)) would never allow that.

So is it safe to just save the project, work on it at home, then resave it to the network overwriting the original? Any downfalls to that besides the time it takes to save an entire project?

Ahh Be Very Careful. I would have to say it's not something that I would suggest doing. I think you can get away with taking individual drawings home, working on them and then overwriting without to many issues. The problem is that I believe the .xml files that are linked are hard coded. I guess if you set up your laptop with the exact same drive names and paths, you might be able to take home the hole project.
I'd also question your IT guys about "Why no VPN?" I don't think the cost is that much, and I know it's very secure or they'd never let us have it.
Hope this helps.

I'll ask him, but his big thing is viruses. He thinks if we get on the internet then we will get a virus. Period. End of story. I'm surprised he hasn't blocked this site yet!!

This isn't getting on the internet persay. It's like having a link to another office. It's your network. The only way you can log in, it first thru the provied, the via a password and user name.
