View Full Version : Coping - Used opening by face, apply to multiple beams?

I have a series of beams that get the same coping. To create the cope I used "opening by face". I suppose I can copy and paste the sketch and recreate an opening by face on each beam but I'm concerned that the shape may change in the future. Making me edit it again each time. What is the best way to make all these beams 'share' the same coping?

If you have a better idea, I'm listening.

Hmm... I tried creating an inplace framing member void and using it to cut the members. No luck there.

Create the opening on one, Group the member and the opening, copy the group. Need to make a change, edit one of the groups, change, then close group to update all.

I would have thought this would be an ideal place to use a profile; if it changes later update the profile and it would change everywhere it was used.
On testing this theory though, I created an opening at the beam end to add the coping as I wanted, but found no way to apply the profile there. Bummer.

This is a good example of when you might consider adding a void to the beam family. If it's being used a lot in a project, I'd tend to choose that over grouping.
