Dimensions in Xrefs

I normally don't use xrefs mainly because the projects that we do in our section are not that "big". HOWEVER we are working on a project with another section and intermixing some details and layouts. Here is the problem: when I xref the drawing (or what) I am setting the viewports to the right scale with the text and dimensions, with are Annotative, are not showing up.

What should I have done??

I believe you have to dim the objects, in modelspace, in the sheet drawing that you're working in for the associative dims to work.
we do not dim items in our xref drawings, we dim them in the actual sheet file. that way, the scale is correct.
