View Full Version : Data Extraction Problem

I have a relatively simple drawing with some window elevations. I am trying to extract the data to create a window schedule. I've done this before, albeit not with these particular blocks, but this one's giving me trouble. Here's what I have:

- 4 different blocks (4 different window models) defined in the drawing
- All 4 blocks share one (1) attribute that has the same name/tag but different values. Some MAY have the same values.
- 3 of the 4 blocks all contain several of the same attributes.

I can start the data extraction and name my new .dxe file. I can also select my data source. If I chose everything in the drawing and click next, it does not move on to the next window. No error either. If I select only the 3 blocks that all contain similar attributes, it works. If I select the 1 block that only contains 2 attributes (with 1 being the same as an attribute in the other blocks), it dos nothing when I click Next.

At first, I thought it was because I had the same attribute definition in more than 1 block. But I don't think that's it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you attach the drawing?

Can you attach the drawing?

Macha,

Thanks for the offer to look at it, but somehow it fixed itself. I closed out of the drawing and reopened it. Somehow, it works now.

If you are using v2008, make sure that you have the service pack 1 installed. I think it came out last Sep. I was having similar goofy, seemingly inconsistent problems with data extraction like you describe. After installing the service pack, it worked exactly like it was supposed to.

Given the date of your post, shouldn't she already have sp2? I'm having the same problems, where it will work sometimes, and not others. I keep getting stuck on page 2.

I will go back and attempt to reinstall SP1 and try it, then SP2 and try it. I'll let you know if this fixed my problem. :?

I reinstalled the service packs, but it still has problems. One work around I have had some success with is, I copy clip out the blocks that I want, and paste that into a new blank drawing. But that still does not solve the problem 100% of the time. I have 2 blocks that have the same attributes calls. The only work around that does work is to install and run Acad 2005. I don't have a way to compare drawing variables, but I have two 2008 drawings attached and one will work, and the other will not. I just don't have a clue on what is going on.

I "save as" my drawing to early version 2000 and then try it with "dataextraction" and it works!!!. I save after to 2004 or 2007 still working.
