View Full Version : Problems with Saved Animations

I just opened a NavisWorks file that I have not opened since last November.

The problem that I am having is that the first two times that I opened it none of my saved animations would run. I tried the .nwf version and the .nwd version of the file. Both of these files and all files related to the .nwf version are saved on my local computer.

Instead of counting forward, the animation counter was actually counting backwards (negative numbers) and I could see that the "Play" button was active. In addition to counting backwards it was doing it very slowly (it took about 30 seconds to go from 0 to -2) and the image on the screen did not change.

In the past, I have seen NavisWorks randomly run animations very slowly - ex: a 90 second animation would take 4-5 minutes to complete - but I have not seen this behavior before. I have never seen a logical or repeatable pattern to this behavior - it is entirely random.

What happened this morning was off of a fresh system restart. I had just logged in for the day after an overnight reboot. I am running NavisWorks JetStream V5.5.38796 Build date of July 10, 2007.

At this point (third time opening NavisWorks - no system restart just reopening NavisWorks) it is running my animations properly (.nwf and .nwd), but I am concerned that it will fail to run them properly when I open this file for a NavisWorks capability / functionality presentation on Monday. I cannot export the animations to AVI because for this presentation I need to show all of the functionality that we utilize within NavisWorks itself.

Has anyone else seen this type of behavior and is there anything that I can to avoid it in the future?

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Brett

As a follow up to my original posting, I did try opening the same NavisWorks .nwf and .nwd files on a different computer (I decided to try the one in the Conference Room where the presentation is on Monday) and I had the exact same results.

It took relaunching NavisWorks three times before my animations would run at the proper speed (not in reverse with negative numbers). I was going to go ahead and rebuild the file and the animations, but there is not enough time before my presentation to recreate all of the necessary animations. This is a file that I have used multiple times for the same type of presentation and I have never had this type of issue with it before. It has not changed or been saved since 11-14-2007.

At this point, I plan on getting into the Conference Room a little early for my presentation so that I can relaunch NavisWorks as many times as necessary until my animations run correctly.

This is a brand new machine and NavisWorks JetStream V5.5.38796 Build date of July 10, 2007 was loaded on it this afternoon.

Once again, any type of feedback or advice would be appreciated.

Maybe try 5.4 instead of 5.5? I can try it out on 5.4 if you don't have it lying around, I didn't have a reason to upgrade to 5.5

David,

Thanks for the suggestion and the offer to take a look a the file. I will see if I have an older version of NavisWorks available and I will try to post the file when I get back to the office on Monday.

I'm pretty late to this thread, but for future readers, here's a really good fix to busted animations, as I too have had this issue as well:

Create an empty animation, and copy the frames from the busted Animation to the new, empty Animation. This has recovered 2 animations that didn't work correctly for me in the past.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will give this a try the next time an animation acts up on me.

Of course, the animations that were giving me problems a few weeks back are not acting up today.
