I came across this software called "Building Explorer", it creates a direct link with Revit and creates instant quantity takeoffs, cost estimates and project schedules. It seems almost too good to be true, has anyone used this? Any input?

Thanks,

No but I remember reading somewhere that all your Revit elements have to be assigned with Keynotes and Assembly codes to allow Building Explorer to work properly.

Andre,

From what I can tell from the website, that is correct.

For Revit to work with Building Explorer, data must be entered for families,
Assembly Codes, Keynotes must be used with intelligent materials/content--
in other words--used like a real BIM tool.

"garbage in = garbage out" applies here. Looks like a great tool.

Will be looking at webinars.

Cheers........

More and more there will be manufacturers (like this - http://www.jeld-wen.com/architecturaltoolbox/index.cfm) distributing free Revit content of their products over the internet. Let's hope the attention they are paying to the Revit models they are creating, will also include this kind of information within it.

Then we can get the maximum from Building Explorer, out of the the box.

If it were me, I would wait and find out (today?) what "Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2009" is mentioned on this blog post (http://bimboom.blogspot.com/2008/03/what-youve-alll-been-waiting-forthe.html).

I just stumbled on some information on Quantity Takeoff if you go to this (http://resources.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/Residential-Solutions/production.php) website, select "Solutions for Home Builders" and then scroll down to quantity take off. There is a summary and a grainy video.
