What is the best way to create a parapet on a flat roof? I am a Revit amateur, please recognize.

Simply extend the height of your wall above the ceiling level by what ever distance you require to construct the roof, provide box gutter & flashings.
Right click the wall
under element properties
offset the top by 1' 9" or 500mm (if your metric)
When you then create your roof (choosing the internal core of the walls) it will sit below the top of the external wall.

If the parapet is not high enough, increase the offset from the top level

Welcome aboard,
Cheers,

Ian

There are a number of different ways to do a parapet wall.

Typically in any case I would have a level set for roof bearing, and another level for top of parapet.

Now you could just extend your walls up to your parapet level like Ian described, but you will also have your interior wall finish extending all the way up. Now this really isn't that big of a deal, as you should be showing it otherwise in your wall sections and details.

Another method would be to have a separate wall running from your roof bearing up to your parapet level. You can join these walls to make the appear as one in elevation, but then you could have something different on the inner side of the core layer vs. what's on the interior of the main exterior building walls.

In either case, you can join the roof to the wall(s) to make it appear correctly in section. In some cases I would draw the roof sketch lines along the outside face of the wall core and then cut the overlapping wall out, or other times I would go to the inside face of core. It just depends on what the construction is and how it will be built.

Thanks guys, very nice. All good ways, think setting up a new level just for t/o parapet is very nice, just so i can get the assembly i want easier.... !!!

Hi. I'm working on Revit 2010 now. The issue with the interior finish going beyond the roof line seems to be fixed. In section now the stud wall ends at the bottom of the roof. However, when I look at the model in 3D it still is showing the stud finish instead of my most exterior wall finish.

Does anyone know why and how to fix it?

Can you post a screen shot of your section view and your 3D view?

Another vote for Patrick. However we do it a bit differently

Set a bearing height and top of parapet. In SD and DD we extend the exterior wall to the Parpet, sweep a coping or gutter and call it good. Later when we are starting to detail we use the split tool to split near the bearing point and change the top to a parapet wall type. (The same as below but with Roofing Board and EPDM or whaterer on the back side. ) If we have placed our roof in the right place, a simple join of the two walls and the roof nearly finishes our detail for the parapet.
