Check it out. Looks like they still recommend XP64 for 2009.

This implies that Revit 64-bit is imminent, which is good news

Looks like this is only for Revit Structure?
If you go to page for Revit Architecture, it does not mention a 64 bit version.

But, we all are anxiously awaiting a new 64 bit RAC.

cheers......

You are correct that only the Revit Structure page says anything about x64, but it is also the only page that talks about Revit 2009 also. So maybe this is an oops or an early update of the site. I can't see them making only one of the versions in x64.

So lets all hope!
Dan

In the description of 64-bit specifications they just refer to it as "64-bit Revit". It seems they are not just describing Revit Structure.

Anyway, I am getting our office ready for it. One big question is XP64 or Vista64. Autodesk seems to preffer XP. I wonder it we can skip Vista and use XP until Windows 7 comes out.

One thing I would like to ask of AUGI users is to use "64-bit" instead of "64 bit" when posting. This makes it so we can enter it in a search and it is what Autodesk uses.

You can now do Boolean searches on AUGI which would help in thes case. Enter 64* in the search box and it will find anything with 64 and then characters after it.

Why do you think Autodesk prefers Xp64 over Vista? As with any OS , select a chosen hardware platform and test, test test. You'll probably find 64bit Vista drivers are being developed more actively than XP64bit. I wouldn't hold my breath for Windows 7. It'll be a while before driver support is strong for Windows 7, and by then XP will be very long in the tooth.

GuyR - You can see Autodesk recomends XP by reading the section called System Recomendations.

Just checked the page again and they took the 64-bit info off that was posted above. =(

The cats out of the bag.......or is it? :)

IMHO, recommend that we do not plan too far in advance with the hardware and OS specifications, as nothing is more annoying than to have a high tech system with the resulting costs of configuring and tweaking it. While I love the power and speed of a good system, like anyone else getting my work done at the end of the day is what I need from my system. I rely on the experience of others to find the best systems for our needs. ; )

I know the sizes of models are getting bigger, but there are ways to manage this presented on on this forum.

I asked an ex-Autodesk developer what science they used to develop their system specs. His answer: "My application runs fine on my computer - so that's what we used in the system specs...."

I just talked to someone who said the target is November. Sounded like beta testing has not started yet. Their office is all 64-bit and they have resolved all the issues.:p
