I was wondering if the "Drawing Manager" add on (tabs in autoCAD) is available for 2008?
could be very useful for me ....

See this link (http://rkmcswain.blogspot.com/2007/01/mdi-document-navigation.html).
Even though it doesn't say so, the offering from Autodesk (last one) works in 2008.

Dunno about "Drawing Manager," but we use AcadXTabs (http://www.caddzone.com/acadxtabs/index.htm) and it works great. Cheap, too. I think it was like $400 for all my users (about 150-160).
A good buy, IMO, and there are some cool features like context menus when you right-click on a tab, stuff like that.

This one was made for 2007 but works fine in 2008: http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/2006/10/trick_or_treat_.html

Meaning they worked out all the bugs reported in the comments section of that post? I have had zero (0) complaints about XTabs (and many cheers).
I mean the price is right for the "bonus" tool from Autodesk, but if it causes problems or generates phone calls from my users asking "WTF?" then Xtabs is worth the $400 for stability IMHO.
$400 is peanuts for an enterprise solution.

Meaning Zero cost and Zero complaints in a company roll out means Zero WTF.
In my experience in my application the 2007 version of Drawing Tabs has worked fine.
In your experience in your applications the $400 version has worked fine.

Whoa there killer, take it easy. I was just asking.
Look I'm all about free stuff. But I'm willing to pay for something that works better. That's all I'm saying.
Out of curiosity, how many users do you support?

Huh? All I said is that I have had zero complaints with the freebie, that's all.
It's been rolled out to 20+ users in multiple offices. Does it have short comings? Sure, what freebie doesn't. But for our needs in our enviroment it works fine.
Besides with the "budget" we have if it's free it's for me :-)

OK my bad. I'll chalk that up to morning surliness on my part (I am NOT a morning person). :)

I understand. I guess I am blessed in that if I say we need/could use something, typically we get it. Not the norm, I know. I've had amazing sucess here with just asking for what I want.
I used to use the freebie at my old job and it worked OK; sometimes the tabs would freeze, etc. things like that. With the AcadXTabs I have had no issues or problems. Plus you get cool context menus. :)
Anyway, not a sales pitch, lol. Whatever works.
OP: Try the free stuff first; you have nothing to lose.

This (http://www.caelink.com/drawing_tabs.htm)is free, works well, and with no bugs, as far as I can tell.
It's been mentioned in other posts in this thread.
I was using the AutoCAD one, but it didn't play nice with publish - this really fits the bill for us.

yeah, the CAElink DwgMan08 drawing tabs is what I was referring to and needing. Thanks, rick.

How about for 2009? I deployed a couple of test setups, one on my computer and one on another office discipline. My dwg tabs at the bottom of the drawing area work fine (or great0, but the other deployment didn't launch. I added the xtabs through menuload manually, and they still aren't showing up?
