View Full Version : Partial hipped dormers

I'm quite new to Revit, and am working on a roof. I went to help to learn how to make a dormer in a pitched roof. It makes a fine gabled dormer where I want it, but I can't figure out how to put a hip on a portion of the dormer.

Any suggestions?

Not sure what you're referring to, do you have an image or sketch you can post on here of what you're trying to achieve?

Basically, it's clipping the corner of a gabled dormer at a 45 at the ridge. I can use the slope arrows to make the dormer, but when I go to edit the roof in plan, the dormer no longer shows up, only the slope arrows. If that's still unclear, I can probably post a little pic later.

Thanks.

You might want to try posting a pic of a sketch or screen shot of what your looking for and maybe a revit file of what you got so far and someone might be able to provide an example or revision to your revit file.

OK. Here's a pdf of the dormer roof that I made separately from the main roof. I didn't attach all these roofs together, either. Basically, I'm looking for a fast way to put a hip on a gabled dormer. Let me know if these attachments don't show up- it's my first try at that, too.

OK. Here's a pdf of the dormer roof ...

Ops! Where is it?

The first one didn't take. I think this is it.

What you had in the Revit file looked fine. But in case you want it to be one object here's a revision. You just need to know what the difference in height for the eaves are.

Thanks. How did you do that?

edit the roof of the file i posted and check the properties of the sloped lines. You'll see that the one sloped sketch line making the hip is offset 3' higher than the others.

If you need flats on either side of the dormer for the main roof you'll have to combine the use of slope arrows. See pics.
