I know this involved using graphic over rides but what is the correct settings to be able to show future construction phase as dashed lines in a new construction phase view? Please help, thanks.

There are a few ways to do it:

1. Override the graphics for the "future" items manually using Right click > Override graphics.

2. Use a filter, by Comments = "future" and have the Cut and projection lines be dashed.

3. Set up a new Phase Filter "Show Previous and New (future)" and then use Phasing. Have the Phase filter so that previous phases show as By Catagory, and have the New items (future) set to be dashed. Then, as far as the view is concerned, youre not really showing the future, so much as the current phase in time...

Whichever way you override the graphics, i would employ phasing regardless.

You can't show future phases, but you can show previous phases as 'Normal' and the current phase as 'Dashed' in Phase Filters. Unfortunately, there is not enough control to enable different graphical styles for past, present and future. The maximum is 2 phases at a time.

It may not work for every situation but you can overlay views on sheets to achieve this. You create an additional view and assign it to the Future phase. Then you alter the display of things in this view so ONLY the future elements are visible and overridden if desired. Then this view is placed on top of another view on your sheet. I posted an article discussing this with some images on my blog (http://revitoped.blogspot.com/2007/01/future-phases.html) in January 2007.

I have only had the need to show future construction maybe 2 or 3 times, and every time I just showed it using the Temporary graphic override. I set both Phase Created and Phase Demolished to the current phase for the view. Our phase graphic override for Temporary objects shows them as a blue dashed line, with a blue diagonal up hatch fill.

If, at a later point in time, you need to show those future objects in a current construction phase, then you just set up a new phase and change those future objects to created on that new phase you just created, and demolished to None.
