I also did a version of this at one time. I needed it to be face based though. You can place this on faces and scale it by controlling the height.

This family is simply a Drafting Detail Component. You can place it anywhere you'd like as long as it's not a 3D View. The parameters on this family are set to instances, so you can pull the grips to where you'd like then or you can enter it's properties and change the "a" value.

Here's one that is adjusted to use the math for a golden section rather than an approimation of the value... (good to know how to do a square root.... ;-) )

Thank you. While building this family yesterday I was wondering if it were possible to have square root formula in the parameter, now i can see it is. Do you have a full set of all the possible formulas for revit, or any source of where I could obtain one?

The formula syntax is in the help file. Just search for formula.
