View Full Version : Curtain Wall grids respacing when bottom changes

I don't remember this behavior before, but it's driving me crazy right now. I need to change the bottom of a curtain wall, but when I do, the grids all re-space themselves. If I move any other curtain grid, nothing else moves, but if I move the bottom, it impacts the whole thing. This seams like a bug not a feature, but in the mean time does anyone have a work around... I can't even split the wall at the right spot.

It sounds like the curtain wall Type Properties have been changed to a rule based property. This can happen if the Vertical or Horizontal Grid Layout setting is changed to Fixed Number, Minimum Distance, Maximum Distance, etc. Could this be the case? Someone may have simply changed the wall type via the Type Selector.

Also check the justification for the horizontal spacing. I can be set to begining, center or end and would result in changes if the bottom of the wall were adjusted.

Actually, in rereading your post, I see that your issue is only with the bottom grid. Do you mean the bottom of the wall? If so, then that line is typically associated with a level and/or offset from the level. After moving the bottom of the wall, you should be able to change the grid lines above it accordingly. Is this not the case?

To backup.

I drew a curtain wall which started at the floor and went up 4 floors with horizontal grid lines lined up to floors, ceilings, parapets, sills, door heads, etc. Then we needed to add a curb at the first floor (which I could not simply add as a part of the curtain wall for other reasons) so I simply changed the base offset 18in. When I changed this, all the other grid lines shifted out of alignment (by a proportion of the 18in). Not only does this screw up the alignment around the building, but it also deletes a bunch of curtain panels and mullions which start out on small sections and get squeezed out of existance. There is no grid pattern defined so I can't access the justification (it's greyed out unless you set a pattern). I just needed a second opinion before I filed this as a bug.

So far I don't see the "bug". I think it is working as designed where the interior grid lines can be modified as needed, but the exterior (horizontal) grid lines are associated with the levels and/or offsets. So if the bottom edge changes, all parallel edges change equally.

Instead of changing the base offset 18", can you add a grid line 18" from the bottom, and then set the bottom section to an empty panel?
