View Full Version : Mirroring Xref text
So if I mirror text normally it always stays justified and doesn't flip (if MIRRTEXT is set to 0)
Ditto with blocks, right?
So .... MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION ...
Is there any way to achieve this with Xrefs?
My mirrtext value is set to 0 but when I flip my Xref, the text flips too ....
Any insight on this little gem?

Hey Rico,
In the dwg file which you are xreffing in, is the mirrtext variable also set to 0? Not sure if that matters though. :|
Text in blocks don't behave as per the mirrtext value but text in xrefs should do.

Why would you mirror an Xref? Why wouldn't you edit the Xref instead?

mirrtext value IS set to 0 in Xreffed file.

because I have Suite type 1 ... and Sutie type 2, which is .... wait for it .... a MIRRORED version of sutie type 1.
So if I can simply mirror the Xref then all i have to do is edit the Xref and both suite types are updated automatically.

One example.
If you had a house plan it could be xreffed into one drawing for a particular plot, but another plot may be a handed version of that house. But any future changes you make you want to update all handed and non handed version.

Ahh, I guess that's one way to do it. I personally like one file for each Xref. I see where you are going with this though. Not a bad idea.
Since an Xref isn't technically a block, I bet mirrtext won't affect it. I'm thinking wish list for 2010.

The mirrtext works fine in my xreffed files, mirrtext does not work for text in blocks unless they are attributes.

Okay, maybe I'm confused. Are you mirroring the Xref'd file, or the actual Xref in the host file? I tried mirroring the Xref in the host file, and mirrtext didn't work for me.

You're not confused but it would appear that I am
The xrefs of our plans have the text mirrored and unmirrored on different layers. Then I've got a macro to mirror and turn on/off the text layers accordingly. So no mirrtext still doesn't work on the xrefs :(

Well, as long as it works! So Rico could use your macro and set up his layers and all will be fine, right?
Problem solved, where's my beer..................

I thought I saw this on the wish list a long time ago. The layering method discussed in this thread would work, but would be easily breakable by uninformed users.

agreed and this is what I want to prevent: users breaking it.
i did see this item on the wish list too ... so was it ever actually added as an option to CAD?

not even. I have a DB inserted into this particular plan and its attributes do not flip when mirrored.
Does anyone know if Xrefs can or cannot be mirrored?
What about text in blocks?
does anyone know if this issue has been fixed in the 2010 or 2011 versions?
